2018-11-23 november 23, people’s daily. on november 20, the 2018 guangdong-hong kong-macao cooperation forum hosted by the council for the promotion of guangdong-hong kong-macao cooperation, and organized by the qingyuan municipal people’s government kicked off in qingyuan city, guangdong province. on the theme of “integrating the greater bay area and balancing development between regions”, the forum attracted more than 400 business representatives, well-known entrepreneurs, experts and scholars from guangdong, hong kong and macao to discuss the high-quality development of the greater bay area.
cweg chairman hou feng said in his speech entitled “how to maintain lucid waters and lush mountains during the high-speed development of the greater bay area” that, compared with the three world-class bay areas of new york, san francisco and tokyo, the greater bay area is still backward in terms of energy utilization, and ecological & environmental quality. when talking about the difficulties faced by china in water management, hou compared the practices in china and abroad. he specifically introduced the uk’s renovation of the thames river which lasted for over one century; the functional restoration of the danube in vienna, austria; and how japan invested tens of billions of dollars in the management of freshwater lake biwa for over 30 years.
hou said that compared with foreign countries, china should be more efficient in water management at a lower cost, under the current environmental pressure. in fact, the practices of guiyang’s mother river nanming river, dali’s plateau lake erhai lake, and guang’an “cealn water action” plan all indicate that based on institutional, system and management innovation, china is able to create chinese water environment management standards and set examples for the world relying on its own technologies.
