2017-06-30 on june 30, 2017, the beijing tongzhou bishui underground wwtp project (hereinafter referred to as “bishui project”) invested and constructed by cweg ushered in another milestone: the upgrade of the original wwtp is completed with the government’s support and the new wwtp will officially supersede the original one. based on the ppp model and new technologies, the upgraded wwtp moves wastewater treatment underground and leaves the aboveground space for building a much-anticipated ecological park.
at the completion ceremony, ji xiaoguang, deputy director of the tongzhou district water authority, gave instructions on “closing the original wwtp’s inlet pumps and putting that of the new wwtp into service”, noting that the bishui project is a major program related to people’s livelihood and has received wide attention and strong support from neighboring residents. ms. jin shaofen, who attended the ceremony as a citizen representative, was very excited, “i’ve been living in the neighborhood for several decades. i used to be plagued by the foul odor emanating from the wwtp, but now, the surrounding environment has been improved greatly, and i can open the windows to take a breath of fresh air. here i, on behalf of neighboring citizens, would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the government, to the leaders and employees working at the frontline in the battle against water pollution!”
the successful closing of the completion ceremony also indicates that, from now on, the bishui project will be tasked with treating the bulk of wastewater from beijing’s sub-center tongzhou, to support an area of 46 km2 and a population of nearly 700,000 from 400,000 previously. with the tireless efforts of 1400 workers, the main structure of the project was completed within just 98 days, and won the great wall cup golden award in recognition of municipal infrastructure’s quality.
relying on cweg’s fifth generation of proprietary underground wwtp system and multiple world-leading green and low-carbon technologies to supersede the previously adopted u.s. technologies, the bishui project features the hardest-upgrade but fastest-completion of its kind in china, and produces effluent meeting the highest national discharge standard. it saves 66% of land for land-scarce tongzhou, increases wwtp capacity by 80%, and completely eliminates the odor that long plagues neighboring residents through excellent design and rapid construction. the 850 mu of aboveground land is left for an ecological park – bishui park, which will become one of tongzhou’s benchmarks.
the success of the bishui project is inseparable from the support of the government, the efforts of cweg shareholders and the spirit of innovation. in the next few years, priority will be given to the stable operation and safe production of the bishui underground wwtp, in a bid to construct an ecological tongzhou with “blue sky, clear water and green mountains”, and promote the coordinated development of the beijing-tianjin-hebei region.
